17 'Edinburgh Racks' installed '99.

After a considerable amount of work by the school its Safe Routes Committee and the Davidsons Mains and Silverknowes Association, a detailed list of proposals for improving routes to school in the area has been sent to City of Edinburgh Council.
The PTA organised a Family Cycle Day on October 10th 1998. The 1999 event was badly affected by rain but it didn't dampen the spirits of The Safe Routes Committee which continues to press for improvements at the school.
The SRC, in conjunction with the school, has organised several Walk to School months these have had significant effects on the number of parents driving their children to school - but they relapse once the month is over!
D Mains is now one of City of Edinburgh Council's "Safer Routes" schools and so council officials are working closely with the school to try resolve problems outside the school. The road past the school is very wide and although it is not a main road, it attracts a lot of traffic - particularly during the morning rush hour.
The school already allowed children to school but an interest in 'safe routes' led to them asking City Development for cycle racks.
